This is a very solid golden oak chest of wonderful proportions which bears its original makers' name of Waring and Gillow and datestamp of 1938  when W & G were producing furniture for luxury liners and yachts and London's best-known department stores, and just before their factories were turned over to War production, manufacturing gliders and parts for mosquito aircraft.

We have stripped down its dark ugly varnish, and repainted in Little Greene "Obsidian", with distressed edges. It has new solid cup handles in an "antique" (aged rusty) silver finish. The top has been sanded down and waxed to bring out the warmth of the golden oak, which had revealed shows some signs of its age and scars of character - its lived! (see photos).

Now its very grand but unpretentious, in the style of a 1930s Harrods or Selfridges shop chest of drawers. Tall dark and handsome. An attractive and solid piece of furniture that can be relied upon to do the right thing for generations to come.
