Vintage Chrome HMV Heater

This 1930s Iconic chrome-plated heater, designed by Christian Barman in 1934 and manufactured by HMV in 1938, dates from the 1930s "streamlined" period, is very reminiscent of the new-look motor cars of America and Britain in 1933 and 1934, when streamlining and aerodynamics were coming to the fore.

This exciting design is on display in both the V & A Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Christian Barman (1898-1980) was an architect and Industrial designer and this is arguably his best-known work. It is thought that its design was the inspiration for the heads of the Daleks, which made their screen debut in "Doctor Who" in the winter of 1963/64. The heater was produced in an ivory colour as well as this infinitely smarter and scarcer metallic chrome model.

A rare opportunity to own a museum piece, this vintage heater has a few bumps and scratches as you would expect from a useful household item that is 75+ years old. We have snipped its wires as it is NOT intended for electrical use, but as a striking Industrial decorative item, which combines both 1930s Iconic design with 1960s nostalgia.

It will just gleam quietly in the corner of any room, exuding design perfection and maybe a little hidden menace... One for Design Devotees or Dr Who fans everywhere
