An attractive ebonised side table from the Arts and Crafts period composed of a wooden frame built to house a decorative handbeated copper charger. The wooden frame is an interesting item in its own right, but the star of the show is the large Copper tray (60 cm in diameter) hammered with an intricate fruit or flower and leaf design around the edges. From the fronds we are guessing it may be Passion fruit?
We have left the Copper charger with its aged patina as is. It does have some streaky watermarks (see photo) and there is historic brass polish trapped between the tiny hammerings on the fruit, and around the more intricate parts of the design. The tray is unsigned, but it reeks of quality. The ebonised stand has had a crack mended and has been given a light waxing.
